It's an image thing. He loves BMWs, but he says that sending a Jewish kid to a rich school in a BMW will send the wrong message to people. He won't let me have a Jag or Mercedes (with the exception of a W123 or W126) for the same reasons. For reasons I can't explain though, he thinks Audis don't send off the same message, so he's okay with those.

He's being inconsistent in being fine with Audi's, but he probably has a point.

You should be able to find something that is still Oppo while not telling the world your some rich douchebag trust-fund kid.

Get a good job when you graduate, and then you can get whatever the hell you want.

I agree. I've brought up the fact that Audis send the same message, but he doesn't care. I think this is because a) he's remembering the late 80's, when Audi was a direct competitor to Volvo, and b) he has always LOVED Audis, and therefor he wouldn't mind me driving them.

And he has said the basically the same thing you just said several times: I can find a cool car without it being a pretentious one, and the when I buy my own car, I get to pick whatever. And I have found plenty of them. I still love that old 7 series, though.

a 28 year old BMW is not going to make you look like a rich prick, it'll make you look like an enthusiast. only idiots think a car that old belongs to some holla holla get dollar baller. Unless you're some collector
